Portals and Intranets

Portals are essential ways of getting information across to large numbers of users. Using numerous different techniques and depending on your requirements we can build you a custom portal, social network  or blog to suit what ever your need, business or personal. Where as a company intranet is typically used to bring information to its employees. This can be news in the company or technical databases for employees to use.

We have a long history with creating open portals for user communities as well as internal company information intranets. If your unsure as to what you need or want read the following:

Common Portal Types:

Personal portals

A personal portal is a site that will typically provide personalized capabilities to its visitors, traditionally providing a pathway to other content. They are normally designed to use distributed applications and provide services from a number of different sources. A further business-driven requirement of portals that we have worked on is that the content be able to work on multiple platforms such as  personal digital assistants (PDAs), and mobile phones as well as personal computers. Portals are not limited to simply providing links and many rely on the creation custom content themselves.

News portals

Media companies all around the world are fast adapting to new technologies. With companies such as the BBC and Channel 4 using Drupal portals this marks the beginning of new news portals across the globe. This new media channels gives opportunity to reach the viewers, whatever the size of your company, in a shorter span of time than ever before.

Intranets:

Cororate Intranets

Corporate intranets became common during the 1990s and as these intranets grew in size and complexity came increasing content and user management challenges. Now in 2011 there are excellent content management systems available to companies of all sizes. This has allowed us to make portals / intranets to be whatever the user wants. Portal solutions can also include workflow management, collaboration between work groups, and policy-managed content publication. We can allow internal and external access to specific corporate information using secure authentication or single sign-on, choosing which user roles can view particular types of content.
