Open University Platform - Drupal Social Networking
Platform is a leading Drupal social networking website created for the Open University. The website is designed to encourage communication between students and provide a user friendly environment in which to do so.
Open University Platform was built using Drupal in order to provide a stable system to create large amounts of content around. Each site user has their own profile and access to a handful of custom built applications. The website contains news feeds, event management, forums, book lookup and a vast array of other functionality, including custom built applications to interact with external information.

Methannet - NERC and The Open University
At it's core Methanenet is a Drupal built social networking site. It gives an opportunity for academics worldwide to exchange, discuss and share information on topics relevant to the community. The site implements a number of Drupal's key features. Forums, blogs, news and events are becoming more and more flexible and powerful on Drupal sites.
In addition to this the incredible Organic Groups module is implemented to allow the community to sub-section itself into research specific groups. Google maps allow users to mark their own locations on a map and also any areas of interest or field work. The site automatically notifies users of new posts, messages, jobs and events to keep the community engaged and active.
